    Old English literature

The spread of the anglo saxon then English was one of the most significant elements in moulding a national identity out of the cultural and social factors that any country underwent
the old english litaerature was latin one in which the use of the first-person speaker was at its top and most of the literary works was known by the narrational (I)as caedmons hymen which is considered the first religious poem in the english literature which talks that caedmon was lay worker in the christian monastery in nurtumbia and once the voice of god came to him and asked him to sing the song of praising God ,caedmon said he isnt able to sing but God aspired him to do and he sang the song of apraising which was preserved by the nuns and monks who were by effect the only people who could write and read and fortunatly the cultural works they preserved were not in the latin language ,the language of the church ,but in the old english language
the work of cedmon hymn was religious one and thus works like (seafarer)and (the wanderer )were all with religious meanings in which fo example the seafarer talks about the daily trials of life but also reflects the religious significance in which the seafarer invite peoplw to back to their God ,also the wanderer who recalls the germanic heroism invites people to back to God
so the old englsh literature was characterized by the following elements:
a.the use of the first speaker person as we see in caedmons hymn and seafarer ,wanderer and the narrational (I)was good example for that
b.the religious and the latin thoughts and the ways of writing were dominating across along time
c.express the daily trials of life as talking about unemployment in (the seafarer )and this was the first poem in the history that talks about jobless
d.the wide-use of heroism and suffering of the warrriors such as (the wanderer )who reminds us with the germanic-byrny warriors and their sufferings
e.depending on biblical thoughts and styles such as (the wanderer )who says in his poem
(where now is the warrior )(where are the war horses)and this style is taken from the famous (aubi sunt)in the bible
