Dubai, 15/1/2002: FirstNet, the premium western entertainment pay-TV bouquet will be airing live and exclusive satellite coverage of the 23rd African Cup of Nations across the Middle East from January 19 - February 10 2002.
“FirstNet has become the region’s virtual home of world class TV soccer and the biannual African Cup of Nations tournament has been played since 1957 making it older than its corresponding European championship,” noted Vinod D’Mello, Executive Vice President Marketing and Network Development of Arab Digital Distribution.
Holder Cameroon and host Mali were among the four first-seeded teams with the fourteen group qualifiers divided in a four-tier seeding system according to their results in the last three editions of the African Cup of Nations tournament. The system is a first for the tournament and has no reference to FIFA rankings.
Seedings:
First tier: Mali, Cameroon, South Africa and Egypt
Second tier: Tunisia, Nigeria, DR Congo and Ghana
Third tier: Burkina Faso, Algeria, Zambia and Cote d'Ivoire
Fourth tier: Morocco, Senegal, Togo and Liberia
