In order to achieve best colour, here are some of the useful tips:

The Mix of your henna:


First off, you'll need some henna powder.

If your henna powder has twigs and things in it, you need to sift it first.


Take about a tablespoon full of henna powder and put it in a plastic bowl. Most people use empty yoghurt pots or similar.


Take a fresh lemon and squeeze it, and some also add cold tea, whether very dark red or light red.


Pour the juice through a sieve to remove any pith as this will clog your applicator.


Add a couple of teaspoons of the strained lemon juice to the henna powder.


Mix together (ideally using a plastic spoon) and add more lemon juice until you get a thick or a lighter version of paste, depending on your own preference.


(Over time you'll get used to judging how much liquid to pour in)
If you want to add extra ingredients to darken the final colour, the only thing I've found to reliably do this is clove oil (a few drops is enough, but even this much can give allergic reactions in some people so be careful) or clove powder (add about half a teaspoon). Mix thoroughly.


Cover the bowl with cling film (Saran wrap).


dye will be ready when you have formed a smooth paste and allowed it to cool – normally for not more than five minutes.

Since henna is a herbal product which is subject to natural variations, it is recommended that you carry out a strand test before applying henna to all of your hair. To do this properly, you will need to cut off a lock of your hair and apply the henna mixture. Leave the henna to work for at least 15 minutes but no more than two hours. Wash off the mixture. If the colour is to your satisfaction, you may continue with the rest of your hair.

You should apply the mixture with a small brush – if you wish to achieve a streaked effect – or otherwise directly onto your hair with your gloved fingers.

You should apply the mixture from the roots at the base of the neck, working up to the crown of your head.Once you have ensured that your hair is evenly coated, leave the henna mixture to work for at least 15 minutes. If you wish to achieve a darker effect, you may leave the mixture on your hair for up to two hours. Finally, rinse your hair thoroughly with warm water to remove the henna mixture and then shampoo and condition as normal.
