Less than a month after the assassination of Hamas founder and spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, Israel on Saturday assassinated his successor Abdul Aziz al Rantisi.
An Israeli helicopter gunship fired several missiles at his car in northern Gaza, killing two of Rantisi’s aides and injuring them very seriously. Rantisi was transferred to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The assassination of Rantisi comes in the aftermath of Sharon’s visit to the United States during which he received American backing for his so-called disengagement plan, and a green light to murder more Palestinians
