China is a very big country . It has more than 750
millions people .The Chinese had had a splendid
culture in the old times .
One of their great thinkers was a man of forty years
of age . His name was Confucius. People came from different
parts of the country to learn from him.
He was a philosopher and a teacher . But he did not
keep a school in a building . No, he liked to teach
his young men while walking .
One day, a young man asked his teacher to go
to the forest. It was near the town where they lived.
Confucius said,<<Yes, we shall go there. I shall give
you a good lesson there.>>
The philosopher and his young men go went to the
forest. Every tow or three hours, the teacher stopped and talked
to his men. When it was noon, they stopped to task their lunch.
But Confucius went on. He did not stop.
He saw a cottage in the thick forest. There was an
old woman living in the that village.
The greet thinker liked to know why the old woman was living
in that forest. it was dangerous to live there .there was tigers,
wolves, and another beasts in the forest.
So he walked towards the cottage. The old woman came out and
stood by the door. When the philosopher got near, he said,
<<Good time old woman>>;
She said, <<Good time, son, what do you want>>?
He said<<will you give me a glass of water ?>>
She: Welcome my son. But I have no glass, come in and have a drink.
Confucius went into the cottage and drank. Then he sat
on the ground and said :
But good mamma why do you live here ?it is a place of dangerous: there are beasts in the forest ?
When the old mamma heard that that she laughed a little and said :
<<Yes my man, there are dangerous beasts in the forest. They killed my husband and tow of my sons. Only my
third son is living with me now. But those beasts are not bad.>>
He : THEY ARE NOT BAD !
She : I mean one can live free in the forest.
The beasts take no freedom, my husband used to say that freedom in the forest is better than living with a tyrant.
The philosopher felt respect towards the woman, and went on saying :
<<But your husband is dead !>>
She : Yes but the truth in his words is a live .
Then he kissed the hand of the old woman and said:
<<You have taught me a greet lesson mamma . I thank
you very mush .>>
He left the cottage and went to his young men. He said,<<write down my
dear sons,: To live among the beasts in the forest is better than living in a town under a tyrant .>>
