A former model, a beauty pageant winner, an Emmy Awards Winner, A Golden Globe winner and an Academy Award winner. It couldn’t have beenjust a coincidence.The talented Halle Maria Berry was born August 14th, 1968 in Cleveland, Ohio. Born to an African-American father Jerome, wholeft home when she was only 4 years old and Caucasian mother Judith who took the responsibility of raising her and her sister Heidi, her father returned home after disappearing for 4 years, but the bond was already broken and he didn't stay for long after that.
She didn't have a problem overcoming being black at school, she achieved a lot of things during school and had a lot of friends, she was able to become class president, a cheerleader, school newspaper editor, and a joint Prom Queen. She was a Winner.Beauty contests were not much of a challenge for Halle as she was a natural beauty, in 1983 she was crowned Miss Teen Ohio, and titles followed after that as she became Miss Teen All-American, Miss Ohio and was a runner up in Miss USA. She was also the first African-American to enter Miss World, and although she didn't win, it opened another door to her: modeling. She did modeling and made a lot of money out of it and enrolled herself in Cuyahoga Community College where she studied broadcast journalism.
After a short period of time, she decided to act. She quit the course and modeled some more to fill up on cash and applied for acting studies in Chicago. She moved to Manhattan searching for work, but it wasn't long before she took a role in the comedy series Living Dolls. The show didn't last long, but Halle had come to attention of other directors, and it wasn't long after the show ended when shewas chosen to play the role of a drug addict in the movie Jungle Fever.
In 1991, she got a role in the famous TV show Knot's Landing, Halle played the role of Debbie Porter, then played Cory in the movieLast Boy Scout, Cory was the exotic girlfriend of Jimmy Dix – played by Damon Wayans – an ex-football player who's investigating themurder of the girlfriend of detective Joe Hallenback played by Bruce Willis. So far she was doing very well, and although she wasn't aprofessional actress yet, her career was becoming more stable.
Taking the leading role in Alex Haley's TV series Queen, she has proven to the world that she's more than just a pretty face. Sheplayed the role of Alex Haley's grandmother, and it was a great success.The turning point for Halle was in Introducing DorothyDandridge (1999), a biography about the famous actress Dorothy Dandridge the first black actress to win Best ActressNomination in 1954 for Carmen Jones. Berry won both and Emmy and a Golden Globe on here performance in that role.
Big movies started coming Halle's way by the new millennium, such as the X-Men series, Swordfish with John Travolta and Hugh Jackman, James Bond: Die another Day with Pierce Brosnan and Gothika with Robert Downey Jr.
Halle got the Academy Award in 2001 for best actress for her part in Monster's Ball.
