Keanu Reeves
Keanu Reeves was born on September 2nd 1964 in Beirut, Lebanon. His name is Hawaiian and it means "cool breeze over the mountains". His name is an influence from his father's side, Samuel Nowlin Reeves who is half-Hawaiian, half-Chinese, Keanu's mother Patric Taylor is English. The family moved to live in Australia for about one year, that's when his first sister Kim was born in 1966. His second, half-sister Karina was born ten years later in 1976.
After his parents separated, Keanu lived in New York with his mother and sisters and occasionally visited his father in Hawaii.
Keanu's mother remarried later on to director Paul Aaron, they moved from New York to Toronto and took up Canadian citizenship, but the couple split up after less than a year.
After a lot of moving around, Keanu dropped out of school when he turned 17 and started job-hopping to support himself. He made a living out of sharpening skates at an ice rink shop for a while, and later on he even tried cooking. He then took advantage of his love to music to earn some money. This went on for a while, during which he also performed a few small parts on TV.
Keanu made his movie debut in 1986 with the TV movie "Under the Influence" in 1986, followed by "Dream to Believe" in Canada. His first big feature film in the US was "Young Blood", in which he played a small role.
With his acting experience and his talent building up, Keanu hit the road in 1986 to pay his stepfather Paul Aaron a visit. Later on Paul became Keanu's manager. Paul suggested that Keanu changed his name to K.C. Reeves, but that obviously didn't work out and soon enough he started using his real name again.
Keanu's next project was "River's Edge", after which he landed a number of roles mainly showing him as a troubled teen. With his growing experience and popularity, he gradually went up the road to stardom with movies like: "Dangerous Liaisons", "Much Ado About Nothing", "Bram Stoker's Dracula" and "Little Buddha".
Giving his career the final kick to the top was 1994's "Speed" alongside Sandra Bullock, which scored almost $300 million worldwide, the movie was an instant hit. Keanu received numerous offers afterwards and was cast to play the title role in "Hamlet" on stage in Canada, while "Johnny Mnemonic" and "A Walk in the Clouds" waited for his return.
Movies like "Feeling Minnesota", "Chain Reaction" and "The Last Time I Committed Suicide" followed, however they weren't big-hit standard. When Keanu was offered the script for the sequel of "Speed", "Speed II", he turned it down because he thought the script to be very poor in quality. Instead he decided to take on a role in "The Devil's Advocate" opposite Al Pacino. Critics were surprised when "Speed II" turned out to be a flop compared to "The Devil's Advocate", which was considered to be a highly professional move by Keanu.
In 1999 Keanu came back with another mega hit. The movie "The Matrix" became one of the greatest hits in cinema history. This movie shot Keanu's paycheck up to $20 million, making him one of the most expensive actors in Hollywood.
"The Matrix" was followed by two sequels, "The Matrix Reloaded" and "The Matrix Revolutions", which have caused much controversy in the Middle East, but were successful nonetheless.
He starred in two other movies in the same year: "The Replacements" and "The Watcher", followed by 2000's "The Gift", "Sweet November" and "Hardball".
Keanu's latest movie was the romantic comedy "Something's Gotta Give" alongside Jack Nicholson, where he played a young doctor who falls in love with an older woman, played by Diane Keaton.
