George Clooney
For a while he was the highest paid unknown actor, but he's well known right now.In May 6, 1961, Lexington, Kentucky witnessed the birth of the famous George Timothy Clooney, born to Nina and Nick Clooney and one sister Ada.
The fact that his father was a TV newscaster allowed George to play around the set at a young age, shouting out the temperatures during the weather reports; he was simply a kid and the audience loved him.
George was a sports guy, he was a big star in Kentucky's Augusta High School, he was no academic and wasn't much of a reader, but he enjoyed reading war books the most.
He didn't like university, and thought of following his father's footsteps into TV broadcasting but it wasn't really his thing either. Things changed when his actor uncle Jose Fereer and his actor sons Miguel and Rafael came to Kentucky to make a movie called They're Off, Miguel got George a small role but unfortunately the movie was never released, but this has triggered something in George.In 1982 he went to Los Angeles with $300 in his pocket, looking for acting work as he studied, he was planning to stay at his aunt's place, but she didn't think he'd find an acting work and she wouldn't help him.
When his aunt Rosemary went on tour she asked him to go with her as her driver, but he got depressed after she asked him to leave a couple of years after. Somehow things got better for him when his friend Tom Mathews, a struggling actor, got him a small place to live in. He lived that way for about a year, looking for movie parts. He was able to get an agent after the first class production he was in, work came afterwards.George got the part of George Burnette in The Facts Of Life (1985), a famous sitcom of the 80's, then Booker Brooks in Roseanne (1988).
Next came Sunset Beat (1990), a short-lived TV series where Clooney played a cop who goes undercover as a biker along with other cops In Los Angeles, as Clooney loved motorbikes this series was one of the things he really enjoyed doing.
He was then in a series based on the famous Look Who's Talking, called Baby Talk (1991) with some of the best sitcom actors such as Tony Danza and Scott Baio. then played a Detective in Bodies Of Evidence (1992), James Falconer in Sisters (1993-1994). Things were definitely getting better for him; he was rich now, earning $40,000 a week and owns a Hollywood home and 2 cars.Later on came ER (1994), Clooney’s mega success. He played ***y doctor Doug Ross, with his looks, humor and actions he was the star of ER, people wondered what ER would be like if it wasn't for Clooney.
Clooney's first role as a bad guy was in Quentin Tarantino's From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) where he played Seth Gecko, with Tarantino along side playing his brother. What thrilled George the most was the letter he got afterwards from Steven Spielberg telling him he'd love it if he'd accept doing The Peacemaker, as it was the first film DreamWorks Studios did, he gladly did it.
Clooney also got the chance to play Batman in Batman & Robin (1997), taking the role that Val Kilmer did earlier.
Clooney was nominated for Emmy Awards in 1995 and 1996, and Golden Globes in 1996 and1998, he was big news everywhere, and he finally got a Golden Globe in 2000 for his excellent portrayal of Everett in the O Brother, Where Art Thou (2000).
Clooney is now filming the second part of the hit Ocean's Eleven (2001), titled Ocean's Twelve, which is expected to hit the theatres in December, 2004
