The way for better satellite viewing “ the advanced motorized way”
This would help more motorized dish user but it should give some usefull help for fixed dish as well, some questions rises from timd to time , all ususally pour in the stream of how to receive more satellites with their existing systems, Here in Meadle East some enthusiasts spend a lot of money for their systems but yet they feel it’s not good enough and it doesn’t satsify their hunger of adding more sattellites to their list especially the weak ones those which not actually beamed for midlle east ,well here’s some pionts to strength your system- hope you’ll find them usefull:
1-If you’re not yet bought your dish do consider to buy not just the large size you can offer but the good quality one as well, orbitron for instance would be the good choice unless you’re very rich and money no object then there’re specialized co.you can buy from, however it’d cost you 4-5 times the price of normal product of the same size they actually aimed for commerial co. and goverments sectors. Back to orbitron it’s got a respectable degree of polarity seperation along with good effiency-ku band reception from this dish is superb I’m talking about 12 feet dish mish type offcours the solid one would be far better but again the drawbacks are running against it ,the wind resistance and weight just another reason why it’s not so wellcome.
2-Now if you’re interested in viewing both world ie digital and analogue then go for motorized analogue/dig. Compenation or still seprate ones - whatever you may choose here remember your should have a motor for azimouth and a jack for elevation this would let you correct any sattellite inclination. Good example for separate receivers would be drake2000/nokia 9600 or integrate one would be echostar 3000.
3-Feedhorn , usually when own a motorized system you’d fit a corotor feedhorn like chaparal ones for c-band and ku-band. My advice never use such feedhorns they’d degrade the overall received signal especially when you’re viewing a weak satellite usually the ku-band ones again those which not target it for us , the signal loss from such feedhorn is so anarmouse and would let your expensive system looks like a cheap one- as an ex-trader and T.X Eng. I’ve installed this type of feedhorn to many customers long ago - the good one is expensive the seavy one , but the trick here not to use either of them just have your universal lnb fitted as prime and very close to it the c-band “offset” , It’d help for c-band reception if you can make a circular cut near the universal lnb feedhorn to collect more radiated siganls from your dish ,The ku-band reception in this setup would be so strong comparing with the corotor feedhorn “thought there’s no in between guidance like polorizer guide to the lnb’s guide” you can receive more weak satellites than you think, but wait it’s not complete yet ,unless you have special instruments to measre up any earth station frequencies interfrences, then use about 1.2 cm cylenderical copper ring and fit it inside lnb the last flang would be ok, this would help to reduce tha unwanted interfrences,you can also cut three rings from outside to inside or still more or less if you want to experment for greater signal reception"there are many factors which judge this technique" and this would require you some focusing as well, offcourse there’re other techniques to block unwanted signals but they’re expensive .
4-Lnb the very important part after dish size - it’s hard to find the best lnb chaparal discontinued the universal and gardiner is no more better than the far east ones , however try to look for some data such as polarity seperation and what so called here .5db , technicaly this is not true , the measurement taken over a specified frequecny in cold condtion whick would never reflect the real life lnb behaviour - however lnb alingment is a prime factor here to remember so take care here and pay a lot of time - use signal strength instrument if you can if you’re after seeing the impossible !
5-Connections - when deviding the universal cable between two receivers ie digital/analogue use smart splitter or power pass and power block terminals, this is because you need to master the lnb with digital receiver as it’s the most viewed receiver don’t use the other way around you’d have the digital inslaved then , still the analogue would be inslaved but it’s less important .In case you can’t find either of above splitters just buy all port power pass then disconnect one of them rectifers put a ceramic capacitor instead , if it’s difficult let technician do it for you .
Now remember reception varies to many reasons just to mention some of these reasons the seasons so don’t be surprised if your reception became bad in very hot day or even rainy one each of which has its own effects upon signals - Use the best cable you can buy RG-6 seems to be common in this regard but there’re better ones again expensive - whatever you do make your cable as short as possible with no sharp angles - Before I forget don’t put any un-necessary splitter in the way , they’ll pass away some good dbs ie to see what I’m talking about here try to watch very weak channel, digital one and then insert splitter inbetween and see if it there!..
