    Eepromedit and Goldcard FAQ

    Eepromedit and Goldcard FAQ

    Q:What is eepromedit?

A.Eepromedit is a tool that is used to create and update a eeprom file and will contain all the keys needed to open a channel. That eeprom file is used to program the eeprom (24c16) on a Goldcard.

    Q:Why can't I update my eeprom file with eepromedit 1.XX, 2.XX?

A.This is because there are different editors for different eeprom files.

Eepromedit 1.8 is used for edititing 8 prov's eeprom.

The pic file for this file has signature check, that checks if the updates for Pk/Pmk have correct signature, and if they have, the updated keys from the provider are written into eeprom. With this type of file you need to tune into the assigned beacon channel to start watching the bouquet you want.Use this file if you want to watch Stream.

Eepromedit 2.25 is used for editing eeprom files with 10 prov's.

The pic file does not have signature check, so Bouquets like Stream that send fake keys with incorrect signature to fool pirate cards like these. But it has one advantage that you don't need to tune into the beacon channel in order to update your keys.

Eepromedit 2.80 is also used for editing files with 10 prov's but this one allows us to define a CoCo for each bouquet.

It seems that this CoCo specification only works on Allcam.I am sick of tring to put it working with my Humax Irci5400 but there is no way to put it working.

The pic file has the same specification as the one for eepromedit 2.25

Q:Why can't I get and update for my working Hmk?

A.Simple, you just need input your Hmk into the "Hmk" files on eepromedit and press Xor.The 2 last bytes of the Hmk will change. Then copy and paste the changed Hmk to the eeprom file you are updating, put the corresponding Serial Hex, and the Provider Id that the Hmk you are inserting decodes. It's essencial that the ProvID is inserted, because the program running on Pic, during the keys update does not update the ProvId, like in Wallbanger.

Q:Why do I need to update my eeprom file each time the provider change keys?

A.Because you the provider probably changed Pmk and you don't have a Hmk.Schematicaly here's the way the update mechanism works:

    Hmk + Shex -> Pmk + ProvId -> Pk.

With a Pmk and it's corresponding ProvId you can update Pk's that are the keys that actually decodes a channel.

With a Hmk and the corresponding Serial Hex you can update the Pmk and consequently update the Pk and watch a channel. If you are lucky enough to have one, insert it and you will never have to worry about programmng your goldcard again. And if you have one and you want another, go to our Hmk exchange services section.

    Q:What is the CoCo?

A.It means Country Code.It defines for which country is the card for.

Among another data it has the information for Emm pid and Ecm pid.

The Emm pid is the address that is requested to the cam, in order to get a key update.

The Ecm pid is the address that is requested to the cam, to get the datastream in ordet to decode a channel.

Example using a CoCo in eepromedit.

    02 01 99 06 01 06 02 06 03 06 04 5D 41 49 54 41 00 00 00 00

    Emm Pid

    Ecm Pid

In channels like Xnet and Zee tv you need to change the Emm Pid to, correspondently, 06 06 and 06 04.This is the only reason why these channels don't work when you simply change Pmk and ProvId on a provider. You will also need to change this parameter.

    Q:How can I program a Goldcard?

A.Well, a goldcard has a Pic16F84 and a 24C16.The pic file will program the Pic16F84 chip and the eeprom file will program the 24C16.

As to hardware you will need a Pic programmer and Phoenix or smartmouse programmer. If you have millenium or any of those fancy programmers, you don't need to worry about, as it has a those 2 integrated, but I can't guide you because I don't have any experience with those.Although the programming procedure is the same for both.

First you need to put your card in the pic programmer, load the loader.hex file to Pic chip in order to program the eeprom.

Then you will need to put your card in smartmouse/phoenix, open Winphoenix, load the eeprom file you want to program and finally press 'program'.

If all goes ok, winphoenix will show you a message saying the programming is sucessfull. Then put your card into the pic programmer again, and this time load the real pic file (not the loader) that will work along with eeprom for you to watch channels.

Schematics of a pic programmer and Phoenix are available on the files section
